Barbeque for Boobies fundraising event planned for next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Blush Haus of Beaute and Cameo 19 Hundred are teaming up to help local women battling breast cancer. Owners of the two local businesses are hosting Barbeque for Boobies, a two-day fundraising event that starts Thursday, July 26 with a kickoff party at Cameo 19 Hundred.

Elisha Wendt, owner of Blush, is the chair of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation’s Pink Ribbon Project and all proceeds from the fundraiser will go to that group. The NHRMCF Pink Ribbon Project provides mammogram vouchers and comfort bags to local women battling cancer. The comfort bags include a fleece blanket to keep patients warm during chemo treatment, a satin pillow case for women who lose their hair and a journal to help women express their thoughts and feelings through the process.

Elisha’s mother, Donna Ricks, passed her journal down to Elisha when she lost her battle with cancer. The fundraising effort will be held in her memory.

Brian Parke, owner of Cameo 19 Hundred, will host the kickoff party at his restaurant on Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m. The five-course dinner that will be served at the event is inspired by the color pink (see menu below) and designed by Chef Kirsten Mitchell, who was recently recognized by Food + Wine Magazine for her culinary skills.

WECT’s Frances Weller is the emcee of the event. Wear pink and you are automatically entered for to win some fabulous raffle prizes. Tickets are on sale now for $100 each. They can be purchased at Cameo 19 Hundred or Blush.
