So long Andy's, hello Highway 55

So long Andy's, hello Highway 55

MOUNT OLIVE, NC (WECT) - In an effort to avoid a possible legal battle over the trademark of the "Andy's" name, the "Andy's Burgers Shakes & Fries" restaurant franchise has changed its name to "Highway 55."

The move became official last Friday. There are several Highway 55 locations throughout southeastern North Carolina.

The 50s-style restaurant chain will keep the same concept. The new signs will be in the 100 existing restaurants by the end of this summer, according to a news release.

The restaurant is branching outside of North Carolina for the first time since it opened 20 years ago. It'll open a location in Myrtle Beach. The plan is to open another 275 restaurants in the southeast over the next six to seven years.

Food and fundraiser = fun!

Food and fundraiser = fun!

WILMINGTON, NC(WECT) - We run cooking segments for Carolina in the Morning every Thursday. It's a great way for local restaurants to get some TV exposure, viewers get a new recipe and in several cases we also get to help promote a great event.

For the past three years I have had the pleasure of working with Jake Hunt, the Executive Director and Founder of  the Wilmington Junior Golf Academy. Jake is such a wonderful man and works very hard to make sure children in our area get a chance to learn to play golf. What the children don't know, because they are having so much fun, is they are also learning important core values.

This year Jake is taking the golf lesssons to four Wilmington elementary schools and several afterschool programs. All of this is done with no expense to the children or their parents. To make this all happen Jake also does a lot to raise money and Carrabba's Italian Grill is helping with that.

A fundraiser luncheon is being held on Friday, March 2 at Carrabba's. The tickets are $25 and include bread, caesar salad, sirloin, crab-stuffed shrimp, tiramisu and a non-alcoholic drink. For tickets call Jake at 910-622-5253 or go to Wilmington Junior Golf Academy.

Chick-fil-A hosts date night for fathers and daughters

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The five Chick-fil-A® restaurants in the Wilmington area hosted a date night for fathers and daughters on Thursday, Feb. 9.

During the special evening, fathers and daughters were encouraged to spend some time together while they enjoyed dinner and special activities.

Every daddy and daughter pair was given an activity sheet with questions and topics to get the conversation started. Plus, they took home a booklet called “Continuing the Conversation” that provided ideas for future dates.

“One of Chick-fil-A’s goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with,” stated Valerie Watkins, marketing director for the Mayfaire Chick-fil-A Restaurant, in a news release. “We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage Wilmington dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughter’s company over a meal and have fun!”
