NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – It'll be a little while longer before a portion of River Road is opened back up to traffic in New Hanover County.
The original plan to open up River Road by the end of this month. However, River Road, between Sanders and Independence and at the Independence Boulevard intersection, is expected to open now on June 8th. Weather conditions have delayed the repaving effort, according to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
On June 11th, phase three of this project will start. That includes a lane shift on River Road north of Independence Boulevard. If you're traveling northbound on River Road, you will be shifted to the center lane. Traffic will flow in both directions.
This is all due to the Barnard's Creek sewer improvement project, which is expected to be finished by the end of July.
