WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The New Hanover County School Board unanimously approved moving forward with a Marine Science Academy at Ashley High School.
The goal of the Marine Science Academy is to provide students with an enriching and rigorous education, in a coastal setting, while equipping them with twenty-first century skills designed to meet the challenges facing our global ocean.
The Marine Science Academy would be conducted in partnership with UNCW and CFCC.
Students would take challenging, college-level courses. 25 students would be accepted in the pilot year.
Students who show academic success and an interest in marine science can apply to the academy.
NHCS freshmen and sophomores will be eligible to apply to the
Academy after successfully fulfilling prerequisite courses. The Academy
will prepare the next generation of marine scientists through:
