What's Going Around? Lots of strep, flu cases decreasing | News

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - There are fewer children testing positive for the flu, but doctors are seeing lots of other illnesses.

At Carolina Pediatrics in Wilmington, 73 children were given a flu test last week and only five came back positive.

They are seeing lots of strep throat which they say is normal this time of year. There is also a persistent cough children are dealing with.

To keep your children healthy, doctors suggest keeping them hydrated, give them vitamin C and make sure they are washing their hands several times a day.

Dr. David Hill with Cape Fear Pediatrics in Wilmington and Hampstead reports flu cases are falling off, and it is not too late to get vaccinated. Dr. Hill is seeing children with vomiting and diarrhea likely due to Norovirus.

Doctors at Leland Pediatrics say they have had a busy flu season but have seen fewer cases over the last two weeks. They are seeing strep throat and fevers due to other viral illnesses. They have also had a couple cases of RSV-a respiratory illness that causes wheezing in infants.
