NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Investigators responded to the scene of a house fire that crews managed to contain to one building Sunday night in New Hanover County.

As of 11:40 p.m., Battalion Chief Michael Pinson said the fire was out and the first responders were clearing out. Before that, crews arrived to a fully engulfed house at the end of Edgewater Mobile Home Road, according to New Hanover County Fire Chief Donnie Hall.

Hall said firefighters approached the situation defensively, in an effort to keep the flames from spreading to other structures.

Several factors created extra issues for first responders, according to Hall. The small, dirt road was too small for the massive fire engines. Crews had to shuttle water back and forth from Myrtle Grove Road.

Representatives from Progress Energy responded to the scene because downed power lines needed to be shut off before crews could continue.

The initial call went out at 7:42 p.m., according to New Hanover County Dispatch. A supervisor tells WECT.com that several people reported smoke and flames in the Myrtle Grove area, specifically near the Intracoastal Waterway.

According to Hall, no one was inside and there were no injuries.
