WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington police responded to a single-car accident Tuesday afternoon on River Rd. Investigators concluded that the driver was driving while impaired.

According to officials, Susan Renee Grant, age 48, of Wilmington, was traveling northbound on River Rd. when she apparently ran off the road, over-corrected, crossed the center line and ran off the road again, on the opposite side, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Grant was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. The vehicle ended up in the woods.

Grant was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say Grant was impaired from legally prescribed narcotic pills and also non-legal drugs.

Traffic Officer Kevin Getman, who also serves as a Drug Recognition Expert, determined that Grant was driving while impaired based upon his interaction with her.

Grant received citations for DWI, failure to maintain lane and not wearing her seatbelt.
