Local business offering free classes to fight crime against children | News

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Child abductions are every parent's nightmare. However, they're happening all the time, and often the news story has a devastating ending.

That is why martial arts instructors Ron Harris and Burnie Richardson decided to start an abduction prevention class for families. It won't teach intricate martial arts combinations, but rather simple, almost second nature reactions that young children can remember.

"I don't care how hard your kid's high kick is, it won't stop a grown adult with a mission from catching your child off guard," said Harris.

The class will start Saturday, November 3 and will run every Saturday at 11 a.m. until Thanksgiving weekend at Coastal Martial Arts Academy.
