Fire officials team up to check smoke detectors, deliver meals

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Fire Services and the Wilmington Fire Department have joined efforts this week to deliver meals and check smoke alarms of the Home Delivered Meal Program clients.

Fire Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs and Battalion Chiefs from both departments took time Wednesday to deliver meals and check smoke alarms as part of Fire Prevention Week.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, that at age 65, people are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires, three times as likely at 75, and four times as likely at 85.

The 7th annual Fire Prevention Expo will be held at Independence Mall Friday, 4-8 p.m.
