Neighbors complain about trash piling up at closed condos
News

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Local neighbors have been complaining recently about a rundown condo complex in one Wilmington neighborhood.

WECT looked into their concerns and found a disgusting mess at the complex on Sumter Drive, where trash is piling up outside the buildings.

Windows and doors are broken out of some of the homes. Others are boarded up and have "No Trespassing" signs posted on them.

Police were called to the site yesterday by neighbors complaining about the trash and the smell.

Code enforcement is now aware of the problem. They are working to determine who owns the property.

Residents are living in one of the units.

They told our news crew on the scene that the buildings have been foreclosed on and that the trash collector stopped coming.

We asked if they have been paying for trash service and they had no clear answer.

It is also unclear who the residents are renting from if the buildings are in foreclosure.

Last month, police were called to one of the units to investigate the death of a homeless man. According to a police report, Roland Chilton, 53, was found dead in a condo at 402 Sumter Drive.

Officers said they are waiting for the results of a toxicology report to determine how he died.
