WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Firefighters rescued six pets from a house fire Tuesday morning.
According to Chief David Hines, smoke and flames were showing at the home on Westchester Road when firefighters arrived.
They used pet oxygen masks to help rescue the animals. Three dogs and three cats were saved, and are said to be doing OK.
Originally, firefighters told the homeowner's son that the fire started at the back AC window unit. Investigators later specified that the fire was caused by an electrical short, and damages are estimated to be around $80,000.
No one was in the home at the time of the fire.
