NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – For the second time in less than a week, a rabies case has been confirmed in New Hanover County.
Animal Control Services officers captured a fox that chased residents and attacked a dog near Yellow Daisy Drive off of River Road on Monday, according to a news release from the county.
The owner of the dog and a friend reportedly cleaned the dog’s wound, which potentially exposed them to the rabies virus. The fox was taken to the state lab and officials confirmed the virus on Tuesday, which is the third case of rabies this year in New Hanover County.
Animal Control staff members verified that the booster vaccine for the exposed dog and the residents were notified of the positive results.
Last Friday, officers euthanized a fox that attacked a resident near East Seaview and Myrtle Grove roads.
