NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The second case of rabies in New Hanover County for 2012 was confirmed on Friday, Feb. 17.
Animal Control Services officers euthanized a fox that attacked a resident near East Seaview and Myrtle Grove roads, according to a news release from the county. The fox was sent to the state lab for testing and the resident was notified of the positive results.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines recommend animals that are not current on their rabies vaccinations be destroyed. Pets with up-to-date vaccinations should be re-boostered within five days.
