Residents concerned with possible rezoning of property

Residents concerned with possible rezoning of property

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Residents of Willoughby Park are expected to gather at the County Courthouse Thursday night to voice zoning concerns during a Planning Board Meeting.

Officials will consider changes to the zoning of the property located along Carolina Beach Road between the residential community and Walmart.

Right now the property is zoned as Office and Institutional, but a “Special Use Permit” is being requested by the owners/prospective buyers to have it amended to be used by a Retail Establishment.

The Willoughby Park Homeowner’s Association has reason to believe the new owners would build a drive thru convenience store in this location, causing even more traffic congestion in the area.

The potential retail establishment would also be loacted directlly in front of or behind several homes.

The zoning meeting will take place Thursday evening in the Courthouse at 5:30.
