Cameron Art Museum to host COAST Poetry Jam

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cameron Art Museum will host the COAST Poetry Jam Thursday, May 30 from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m.

According to the Cameron Art Museum's website, the event will feature poets in the port city and beyond.

Admission is $5 or $3 for college students with a valid ID.

Civil rights documentary to air in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A civil rights documentary is showing in Wilmington for one night only.

Kimberly McLaughlin-Smith, who works in the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at UNCW, is helping host a screening of Free Angela and All Political Prisoners at Carmike Cinemas.

It's about Angela Davis, a University of California philosophy professor, who became a civil rights activist icon in the late 1960's.

The movie starts at 7:00p.m. on Thursday, May 16, and there will be a discussion on civil rights afterwards.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wednesday nights in the park will soon become all about family and learning about nature, according to a spokesperson for the City of Wilmington.

The following classes below will be offered at Halyburton Park, located at 4099 S. 17th Street.

The cost is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required.

TheatreNow hosts breakfast to benefit Cape Fear Clinic

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – TheatreNow hosted a breakfast at the City Club Tuesday morning to raise money for the Cape Fear Clinic.

The clinic provides care for people in the area who are uninsured and have no other means to pay for care.

The Cape Fear Clinic provides a medical home for adult patients with a chronic medical condition.

TheatreNow’s artistic director Zach Hanner took over 19th century rooms upstairs in the club and lead attendees through vignettes of care, followed by a breakfast from the City Club.

Cape Fear River Rowing Club hosting open house

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Cape Fear River Rowing Club is hosting an open house soon at the Wilmington Marine Center, located at 3410 River Road, according to an event organizer.

From 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 1, visitors can tour the club’s boathouse, learn rowing techniques on a machine and row on the Cape Fear River with experienced club members.
