Controlled burn at Halyburton Park to start at 11 a.m. | Environment

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A prescribed burn, at Halyburton Park, will begin at 11 a.m. Friday and is expected to last for about two hours.

The burns are conducted to reduce the risk of wildfire at the park, improve habitat for wildlife and to restore a natural element of the long leaf pine ecosystem.

The park is located at 4099 S. 17th St.
