NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Health Department Division of Environmental Health will be spraying for mosquitoes in the county again this week.

According to the Health Department, treatments will be applied between 6 p.m. and midnight Tuesday-Thursday.

If it rains, the spraying will be rescheduled.

Spraying will take place in the following areas Thursday:

  • Wilmington
  • Forest Hills
  • South Lansdowne

The Health Department said the treatments will be administered with truck-mounted equipment to spray open spaces in residential areas.

Individuals can take a number of precautionary measures around their homes to help eliminate mosquito-breeding areas, including:

  • Dispose of cans, buckets, plastic containers, ceramic pots or similar containers that hold water on your property.
  • Properly dispose of discarded tires that can collect water.  Stagnate water is where most mosquitos breed.
  • Drill holes in the bottom of outdoor recycling containers.
  • Aerate ornamental pools or stock them with fish.
  • Clean and chlorinate swimming pools not in use and remove any water that may collect on pool covers.
