NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – At its regular meeting for September, the New Hanover County Board of Education approved an interim principal and three assistant principal appointments, according to a news release.

  • Amy Conklin, who has been an assistant principal at Roland-Grise Middle School since the beginning of the school year, was appointed as interim principal of M.C. Williams Elementary School.

Before that, she served as assistant principal at College Park Elementary School, and she has also worked as a mentor, gifted education specialist and teacher with New Hanover County Schools.

Prior to working in New Hanover County, she was a specialist and a teacher in Wake County.

  • Martha Gilroy was named assistant principal at Myrtle Grove Middle School.

Currently, she is the program director at Wilmington Early College High School, and she was also an English teacher at Isaac Bear Early College High School and Pender High School.

At Heide Trask High School, she was an English Department Chair.

She also taught English and French previously in Columbus County.

  • Emily Grace was named the assistant principal of Wrightsville Beach Elementary School, where she’s been an interim assistant principal.

Previously, she’s taught English as a Second Language, reading and math at Williston Middle School, along with serving as Project Coordinator for Hill Center Partnership with Brunswick County Schools and UNCW.

She also worked as Program Director at Mastermind Prep Solutions in Pender County and was the Assistant to the Director at the Cape Fear Center for Inquiry in Wilmington.

Grace was once a teacher and science educator at the Boston Museum of Science.

  • Alan McNaughton was named assistant principal of Hoggard High School.

Currently, McNaughton is a Special Education teacher and assistant athletic director at Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville.

Previously, he taught Special Education at Terry Sanford High School with Cumberland County Schools.
