NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Detectives in New Hanover County say they have ruled a recent death investigation as a murder/suicide.
A news release sent out Thursday afternoon indicates Eduard Nagel, 85, shot Valerie Kelly, 53, four times with a .38 caliber handgun before shooting himself.
The incident took place at a home in the 300 block of Normandy Drive in New Hanover County. It's part of the Marqui Hills community.
A woman who identified herself as Nagel's wife told 911 operators her husband shot their daughter and then killed himself. Kelly was Nagel's step daughter.
"He shot her. He came out with a gun and started shooting. And then he shot himself. He just went crazy, I think," she explained on the 911 call.
Apparently the woman had already lost a daughter in the past.
"I just don't know. Why didn't he shoot me? I lost one daughter. I don't know why he shot her," the woman told the 911 operator. "Oh my, oh my. She's gone. Oh lord, I can't believe it."
