Homeowner robbed at gunpoint in Monkey Junction area

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT)- Authorities are looking for two men who are accused of robbing a home at gunpoint Tuesday night.

The home invasion happened in the 4800 block of Long Branch Drive near Monkey Junction.

According to officials with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, two men invaded the home around 9:15 p.m. Dispatch said both suspects had guns and one of them might have been carrying a crowbar.

They are accused of taking a cell phone from a woman in the home.

According to dispatch, the suspects were two men. One was wearing a white tank top with a black shirt wrapped around his neck. The other, thought to be between 5'8" and 5'10" and heavy set, was wearing a black mask, black sweater and Timberland boots. Dispatch says the men are possibly in a silver Honda Accord.

There no reports of any injuries.

The SABLE responded to search for the men. Crews left the scene around 1:15 a.m.

Deputies respond to robbery in Monkey Junction area

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office responded to a robbery in the Monkey Junction area Sunday night.

According to New Hanover County Dispatch, the call came in near the Best Western at 5600 Carolina Beach Road. Someone from the sheriff's office said the incident did not involve the business.

Sgt. Brewer from the sheriff's office said the incident is still under investigation. Check back for more details as they become available.

Officers arrest four in armed robbery case

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Four people have been arrested in connection to an armed robbery last month on Navaho Trail.

According to the police department, Willie Lynell Sellers was arrested April 16 after he sustained a facial injury from the victim during the armed robbery.

Sellers was charged with armed robbery and first degree burglary at the time, and has since been charged with felony probation violation.

Police say now, three others have also been arrested and charged.

55-year-old Darrell Kimble Maupin, who has a lengthy record in several states, was charged with first degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Joseph Ryan Baker, 34, was charged with first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor probation violation.

Sylena Nicole Gaines, 20, was also arrested and charged with was charged with first degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

First look at 20-year-old accused of killing father

503 Night Hawk Drive

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - We're getting our first look at the Wilmington man who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Thursday night, accused of killing his father.

Corey Eugene Roberts, 20, was arrested at the family's home at 503 Night Hawk Drive.

Officials at the jail couldn't take a booking photo of Roberts during his first hours in custody because he was reportedly uncooperative.

Wilmington Police were called to the residence around 6:45 p.m. Thursday. When they got there, they found Christopher Eugene Roberts, 52, had been stabbed.

A female called 911 and was in the middle of describing Roberts when she stopped mid-sentence to frantically say, "I think he stabbed my dad!"

The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

At the beginning of the 911 call, the caller was saying Roberts was trying to kill himself and they needed help.

Arrest warrant prompts school lockdown

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A pre-K school went on lockdown Friday morning while police made an arrest nearby.

Police issued a warrant on Vance Street of Shipyard Boulevard around 9:30 a.m.

Neighbors said police used Flash Bangs to stun the suspect, who was arrested with no struggle.

 An officer later suited up in a Haz-Mat suit and went in the home for deeper investigation.

No other details have been released at this time.

Officers catch teens breaking into scooter store

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Three young men were arrested early Saturday morning after they were caught breaking into Mad Mike's Scooters on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.

According to police, officers caught Quinton Markee Sanders, 16, and Artez Tremayne Williams, 16, inside the business when they arrived.

They said bold cutters had been used to get in through the chained back fence and also into the merchandise container.

The person who called 911 told dispatchers they thought a third person was with the teens and may have climbed the fence to escape.

According to police, another officer made contact with Myron Lagrant Sanders, 21, who was inside a vehicle parked at Holy Ground Coffee Shop which is next door to the scooters business.

Police said the vehicle had two gas cans inside. It was determined Myron and Quinton are brothers.

All three young men were charged with breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Man arrested for DWI tries to kick out patrol vehicle window

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man arrested for DWI Friday night tried to kick out the back window of a patrol vehicle while being taken into custody.

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department responded to a report of a hit and run in the 600 block of Mears Street Friday night around 10:15 and found the vehicle involved in the 900 block of South Seventh Street. According to police, Justin Hunter Stroupe, 23, was in the vehicle and very impaired.

Police say Stroupe refused to get out of the vehicle and was "combative" until he was subdued and handcuffed by officers.

According to officials, Stroupe tried to kick out the back window of the officer's patrol vehicle, so he was further restrained.

Stroupe was still resistant and was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and a blood test before being booked in jail. He was charged with hit and run, DWI and hinder and delay.
