WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A blood drive will be held at Parsley Elementary School at the end of the month in memory of a former student.
Zack Mayo died from liver cancer in 2011, at just 12 years old.
Mayo got into an accident that ruptured a tumor in his liver. He eventually needed more than fifty units of donated blood during his first 24 hours in the intensive care unit. His family continues to promote blood donations to help spare lives in a time of need.
The Red Cross is hosting the drive at Parsley Elementary, where Zack attended, on Wednesday July 31st from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
You can register for an appointment with the sponsor code of "parsley" at http://www.redcrossblood.org/make-donation.
