WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - How would you like to wear jeans to work Wednesday?
For $3, maybe you can.
Coastal Horizons Center is holding its fourth annual Jeans for Justice event, in which local companies are encouraging employees to wear jeans in exchange for a $3 donation to the rape crisis center.
Several local businesses will donate 50 percent of the profits from jeans sold Wednesday.
Jeans for Justice started in 1999 after a judge in Italy overturned a rape conviction, ruling that it would be impossible for the accused 45-year-old rapist to have removed the 18-year-old victim’s tight pants, like jeans, without her help.
The incident compelled Italian women to go on a skirt strike and to wear jeans instead.
