WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Years of fundraising from parents, teachers and students all came together Tuesday at a ribbon cutting for Holly Tree Elementary School’s new track.
The school's P.T.A. worked to raise about $33,000 for the project.
The first plan for it came up a few years ago, when parents wanted to remember the lives of two students named Bryson Parry and Jacob Hatten, both of whom died in 2009.
Organizers say they would have loved the track.
“Both of those boys had tremendous spirit and loved to be outside and play, and what better place to play than a field and run and be safe?” said P.T.A. member Tovi Heffron.
You can check out the track yourself in March for the fourth annual Cardinal Strut, which is a 5K, 10K and one-mile fun run that’s expected to attract more than 500 runners.
