YWCA hosting open house Thursday | Children

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Ever wanted to learn more about afterschool programs and what they have to offer? You’ll have the chance to learn about one in particular on Thursday, as the YWCA will be hosting a Lights On Afterschool Open House from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to a news release.

Lights On Afterschool is a program advocating for afterschool opportunities for all children and brings awareness to such programs cut due of budget cuts and freezes. At Thursday’s open house, parents and community members can visit YWCA classrooms, meet the organization’s staff, bid on a piece of art and more.

The YWCA is open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and assists with providing transportation from many area schools. The group provides homework assistance, activities, field trips, snacks and more through its afterschool program.

Pizza and lemonade will be served at the open house.
