Scheduled open house dates for area schools quickly approaching | Children

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The 2012-2013 school year is quickly approaching, and many parents and students alike want to stay up-to-date on what they can expect. Soon, many of them can learn more about the school before the first day of classes.

The first day of school for traditional calendar students is Monday, Aug. 27, according to a news release.

The following is an open house schedule for New Hanover County Schools, provided by NHCS:

Traditional Elementary Schools
All traditional elementary school open houses will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23 during each school’s designated time.
Hours: 5 until 7 p.m.

• Anderson Elementary School
• Bellamy Elementary School
• Blair Elementary School
• Bradley Creek Elementary School
• Carolina Beach Elementary School
• Castle Hayne Elementary School
• College Park Elementary School
• Forest Hills Elementary School
• Freeman Elementary School of Engineering
• Gregory Elementary School of Math, Science, Technology
• Holly Tree Elementary School
• Murrayville Elementary School
• Pine Valley Elementary School
• Snipes Academy of Arts and Design

• 5:30 until 7 p.m. Last name beginning with N – Z

Lake Forest Academy will hold open house for K – 8 students on Thursday, Aug. 23 from 5 until 7 p.m.

Middle Schools

All traditional middle school open houses will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22 during each school’s designated time.

  5 until 6 p.m.
• Murray Middle School
  5 until 6 p.m. - 6th graders & new students
  6 until 7 p.m. - 7th and 8th graders
• Myrtle Grove Middle School
  6th graders – 2 sessions
  5 until 6 p.m. - last names A-L
  6 until 7 p.m. - last names M-Z
  6:30 until 7:30 p.m. - 7th and 8th graders
• Noble Middle School
  4 until 4:30 p.m. - Information session for new students
  4:30 until 7 p.m.
• Roland-Grise Middle School
  5 until 7 p.m.
• Trask Middle School
  5 until 6 p.m. - 7th and 8th graders
  6:30 until 7:30 p.m. - 6th graders
• Williston Middle School
  5 until 6 p.m. – 6th graders

High Schools
Traditional high schools will host their open houses on Tuesday, Aug. 21 during each school’s designated time. Ashley High School will offer a 9th grade freshman orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Early College High Schools

Isaac Bear Early College High School will hold its 9th grade orientation on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 5 until 7 p.m. IBECHS will start the 2012-2013 school year on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Pre-K Centers
Open house information for Mary Washington Howe Pre-Kindergarten Center and Dorothy B. Johnson Pre-Kindergarten Center will be held on staggered enrollment days. Parents will be notified of dates and times.
