WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Communities in Schools of the Cape Fear region are asking residents to help “Stuff the Bus” with school supplies this weekend for students and classrooms in need.
Volunteers and NHC school buses will be stationed at both area Walmarts, the Harris Teeter in Mayfaire and Office Depot during the tax-free weekend to collect school supplies for those in need in New Hanover and Pender counties.
“No student should have to start the school year without the tools they need to learn,” said Tracy Tisdale in a press release. “We want to help as many students as we can be successful in school.”
According to a press release, the donated items are equally distributed to every public school in New Hanover and Pender counties. The supplies are given to a counselor at each school who will provide items to students as need arise.
Last year, more than $50,000 worth of supplies were provided through Stuff the Bus.
