Two Ashley High students receive National Silver Awards for visual arts | Arts & Culture

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Two Ashley High School students received the National Silver Award from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, according to a news release from New Hanover County Schools.

Tara Robert and Taylor Edwards, who are mentored by art teacher Angelia Hewitt, were reportedly selected for their achievement in visual arts by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

Only 1,500 of the 200,000 submissions were recognized at the national level. Robert and Edwards will attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 1. They’re also eligible for $5 million in scholarships from more than 60 colleges, universities and art institutes in the United States.
