WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man and woman both face drug charges in connection to trafficking both powder and crack cocaine.
According to a spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department, local police and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s worked together Wednesday to arrest the two accused drug dealers after they confiscated one-half kilo of cocaine, the street value of which estimated to be at least $30,000.
Wednesday morning, police stopped a car for speeding on Carolina Beach Road near St. Andrews Drive. A K-9 officer was called to assist, and the K-9 indicated that there were illegal drugs in the vehicle.
Authorities proceeded to find a large amount of powder and crack cocaine in the trunk. They then arrested 30-year-old Rashad Shareef Beckett, the passenger in the vehicle.
Authorities then followed up on the seizure by executing search warrants at an apartment in the 5610 block of Carolina Beach Road, where they seized another large amount of cocaine. There, Beckett’s girlfriend, 27-year-old Crystal Denise Royal, was arrested.
Both suspects were charged with multiple counts of trafficking cocaine and numerous related charges.
Beckett is being held at the New Hanover County jail under a $750,000 bond, and Royal is being held under a $500,000 bond.
