Police: Man steals beer while woman waits outside with knife | 911

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man stole beer from the Dollar General on Carolina Beach Road Tuesday night while a woman waited outside with a large knife, according to Wilmington Police Department spokesperson Lucy Crockett.

WPD officers spotted Kevin Christopher Mullen, 22, and Heather Lynn Barlup, 21, behind the KFC on Carolina Beach Road around 9:20 p.m. with a case of beer sitting on the ground nearby, Crockett said. As the officers approached, Barlup threw down a silver Bowie-style knife.

Witnesses told police that Mullen went inside the store to steal the beer while Barlup waited outside. When a store employee followed Mullen outside to confront him, Barlup reportedly pulled the knife out so that the pair could escape.

Mullen and Barlup were both charged with armed robbery. They were taken to the New Hanover County Detention Facility and where in custody at the time of this post on $35,000 bonds, according to Crockett.
